Three-Port Series-Resonant DC/DC Converter for Automotive Charging Applications

In the energy distribution grid of electric vehicles (EVs), multiple different voltage potentials need to be interconnected, allow arbitrary power flow between various sources and electrical loads. However, potentials, galvanic isolation is absolutely necessary, either due safety reasons and/or grounding schemes. This paper presents an isolated three-port DC/DC converter topology, which, in combination with upstream PFC rectifier, can used as combined EV charger for interconnecting single-phase AC mains, high-voltage (HV) battery low-voltage (LV) bus EVs. The proposed topology comprises two synergetically controlled magnetically coupled parts, namely, a series-resonant PFC-sided DC-link capacitor HV battery, well phase-shifted full-bridge circuit equivalent LV port, mainly characterized by simplicity terms control complexity. For this converter, simple soft switching modulation scheme comprehensively analyzed, consideration all parasitic components real implementation. Based on analysis, design 3.6 kW, 500 V/500 V/15 V prototype discussed, striving highest possible density low manufacturing costs, using PCB-integrated windings magnetic components. hardware demonstrator achieves measured full-load efficiency charge mode 96.5% nominal operating conditions 16.4 kWL−1.
